    Key Stage 3

All students study French at Thistley Hough from Year 7. Key Stage 3 courses are tailored to meet the needs of all abilities; a dedicated program is being developed for the less able learners which focuses mainly on spoken language. More able students are challenged by extension work and are encouraged to become more autonomous users of language.

    Key Stage 4

French is offered at Key Stage 4 as an option subject and we currently follow the AQA GCSE Examination Specification French A course.   At KS4, students are taught and encouraged to become more independent learners and producers of the French language. Students work on a coursework portfolio throughout the course. The three GCSE tests begin in the May of Year 11 with the speaking test following which, students are entered for the reading and listening tests at either Foundation or Higher level according to their abilities and progress.

    Facilities

We have excellent facilities in the department: two specialist languages classrooms each equipped with digital projectors, video, DVD and audio facilities, access to class sets of laptops and a diverse collection of traditional resources including flashcards, dictionaries, educational games and other foreign language materials.

    Extra-curricular Activities

Various educational visits are offered annually with carefully designed programmes to enhance both the spoken language and cultural experiences of our students.

At other times throughout the year, students have the opportunity to participate in various cultural experiences such as European art projects and cooking.

We offer an ‘After-School Enrichment Club’ where students can access resources for coursework, receive intense speaking practice and complete homework etc. In addition, workshops are offered during the Easter holidays aimed specifically at Key Stage 4 students in preparation for their examinations.

This year we have established links with our local Primary feeder schools in order to develop a Key Stage 2 transition program.
