Music
The music department offers a variety of different activities and facilities to the pupils at Thistley Hough High School in and out of lessons.
The Music department teaches all of year seven, eight and nine (Key Stage 3) for one hour each week. Year ten and eleven pupils (Key Stage 4) who take GCSE Music as an option have two lessons each week.
Key Stage 3
At Key Stage 3 the pupils learn about the following topics:

While learning new information in the topics the pupils learn musical skills such as performing on various instruments, composing in groups and as an individual, listening skills, and appraising skills.
Key Stage 4
At Key Stage 4 pupils learn about the following topics:
- The Blues
- Indian Classical Music
- Pavan and Galliard
- Disco
- Salsa
- Bhangra
- Minimalism
Pupils learn new musical skills when learning about these topics and the new skills acquired help the pupils to produce their coursework.
The Department is well equipped and resourced with a variety of different instruments. The department has keyboards, glockenspiels, a wide variety of percussion, and has recently had a new ICT suite fitted.

The school has a fantastic team of peripatetic staff. The instrumental lessons available to all pupils are:
