Physical Education

Aims

Contribute to the physical development of each student, allowing them to appreciate the importance of physical activity in maintaining a healthy, active lifestyle.

To provide opportunities for students to acquire the knowledge, skills and understanding for them to become informed spectators, officials and participants in a range of physical activities and sports.

To foster the social skills associated with co-operation, competition, participation and team work.

Curriculum

Year 7 - 2 x 1 hour core P.E. and 1 x 1 hour dance lesson

Years 8 to 11 - 2 x 1 hour core P.E.

Key Stage 4

Students in years 10 and 11 also have the opportunity of opting to take GCSE P.E., GCSE Games or GCSE Dance. In addition all students in years 10 have the opportunity to complete the Sports Leader Level 1 Qualification (former JSLA) during their core P.E. lessons. In order to complete the qualification pupils complete a 12 hour sports leadership placement in one of our partner primary schools.

Extra Curricular Opportunities

The department has an extensive extra curricular programme which includes recreational clubs, team practices, inter school fixtures, inter form competitions, leadership courses, volunteering opportunities and specialist coaching sessions. Further details can be obtained by contacting any member of the department.

Kit

All students are expected to wear the appropriate school kit for all P.E. and Dance lessons. Indicated items are only available from the school and must be ordered in June or July.

Girls Boys

Illness and injury

Illness or injury may prevent students from taking part fully in lessons. In such cases a note should be brought outlining the condition. The student will still be required to wear their kit but the lesson will be adapted to suit their individual needs.
